The Race Against Time

Prophet Muhammad told his followers, “Do not curse time (al-dahr), for God is the one who crafted time. ” Do not decline the gifts of Allah for he is the giver and we are his servants.  As Muslims, it is our duty to fufill the five pillars and spread Islam to others with the time Allah provides us.There are many of us in today's society who believe in the popular saying as "Time is Money." Time in Islam is much more than money or any precious material thing in this world. Of all the religions, Islam is the only one that guides mankind not only to the importance of time but also how to value it. Allah the Almighty and His Messenger, Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), very clearly tell us the value of time, why we cannnot waste it and how we can make use of our time wisely to increase our Eeman and attain success, for this life and the hereafter.

I What is time? Is it a clock or does it just go by. Some define it as the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole. Some say that time is money:  a possession which holds us back from our deen. Time holds such a significant value to an extent that our society cherishes it as something that shouldn’t be wasted. Mark Twain once said, “Youth is wasted on the young”.  Once we are older and we are aware of the fleeting nature, about ourselves and the world that we live in, we hold many regrets. We order our lives around time, in Islam lives are structured around the daily prayers. Allah gives us a limited amount of time in this dunya because Allah reminds us that we are supposed to make the most of what Allah provides.
